Alumni Profile: Fred Achenbach ’57

Thanks to Fred Achenbach ’57 for answering our survey! We asked him about his favorite place to go in Philadelphia, his favorite college tradition, and where life since Penn has taken him. Here’s what he had to say:

Where was your favorite place to go in Philly, why was this place so special to you?

I loved visiting the history of the city. Made many trips to Old City, Art museum, Independence Hall etc.

What was your favorite event, tradition, or activity to partake in during your college years? Why was it so important to you? Do you still engage with that event, tradition, or activity?

Football Weekends especially with military academies, annual party with nursing school, and IFC Ball, Penn Relays. Too old to do most of these things anymore.

As an alumnus, what do you see as the most valuable part of your SigEp experience?

My time as VP and IFC member, also working with alumni to maintain physical condition of 3909 Spruce.

Any other updates personal and/or work-related that may be interesting to share with your SigEp brothers?

I retired after a very great career with Bell Atlantic Corp. Served my community of Warrington Township Bucks County PA as an elected official & Director of its Water & Sewer Department. Also took active role as president of the Warrington Athletic Association. Retired 4 more times from various jobs. Had a lot of fun being Chairmen of Bucks County Republicans for Dick Thornburgh.
